Working at Free Wheelchair Mission for 4 years provided opportunities and challenges for me to utilize my creativity. Working at this small non-profit was not just a graphic design job, it was also sales and marketing. The whole organization has to pull together to ensure the mission is executed. A designer’s job is to equip the organization with the tools necessary to connect the developing world to our donors, thus inspiring them to give. This is where I learned how to effectively raise funds.
“The Big Push” was a concept created to help “push” wheelchairs out of the regional shipping queue into the lives of people in need. The concept came from story-telling, by sharing about particular individuals who had been touched by their gift of mobility; stories of salvation, answered prayers, joy, or even simple things like the ability to go back to school. These stories allowed donors to put a face to their financial gifts and witness lives changing up close and personal level.
With the collaborative efforts of myself and our Communications Specialist we were able to use this concept to provide our team with 1 hard mail piece, 3 email touch points, 7 enewsletter stories, a video and social media content, which raised over $600,000!!
